Rachel + Adam | Kansas City, Missouri Engagement Session

We met Rachel and Adam in Kansas City for their engagement session on a very windy day!  They chose the perfect locations for the session.  We began the evening at Loose Park.  It’s a lovely park with many great places to offer.  Rachel and Adam warmed right up to the camera in no time.  Adam has a way of making Rachel laugh so genuinely!  These two are an adorable pair and it’s evident they perfectly balance one another out.  Rachel is outgoing and bubbly, while Adam on the other hand is much  more reserved.  Together, they are such a perfect pairing.  It was fun watching their nerves melt away as we saw their true personalities come out to shine.  Their giddiness is contagious and their love is endearing!

After strolling around Loose Park for the first half of the session, we ventured to Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to end the evening on a high note.  The Art Museum provided a gorgeous neutral backdrop that had us swooning!  We chased the golden sunlight the remainder of the evening as we photographed the darling duo!  The session couldn’t have gone more perfectly than it did.  Rachel and Adam are an adorable pair and we cannot wait to photograph their wedding day this fall.

Their Love Story

Rachel and Adam first connected through a mutual friend at one of Adam’s work happy hours!  Rachel spent the evening singing Shania Twain, Adam’s favorite.  He thought that was the perfect ice breaker since he is more on the quiet side in the beginning.  Shortly after meeting for the first time, Adam planned a date night with Rachel.  Trying to impress Rachel, Adam lined up nice fancy restaurant for the date but quickly realized that wasn’t his or her style. Rachel was very excited and was anticipating a perfect evening full of conversation and questions.  Instead, she was met with a very, very nervous Adam.  Rachel felt that the first official date fell flat.  She was hesitant to give him a second chance for another date, but after some convincing from a close friend, Rachel decided to give Adam one more shot to see if he could redeem himself.  As it turns out, a second date was all Adam really needed to warm up to Rachel.  During the date, Rachel remembers heading to the bathroom with the biggest grin on her face.  She knew then that she really enjoyed Adam’s company!

You know the saying,”when you know, you know?” That’s how Rachel describes knowing Adam was the one for her!  Overtime, as the two would grow closer together, and began meeting family and friends, and taking road trips, Rachel knew she was in for the long haul.   Adam loves how he and Rachel are able to connect and be themselves around each other. Rachel’s independent and competitive personality initially drew him in.  He felt that she perfectly complimented him.   They have truly become best friends over the past two and a half years.

How He Asked

Rachel – Now looking back the proposal started long before we got engaged. One of my friends texted a group of us from work about getting our nails done. This friend was pregnant and she told us she wanted to get her nails done and pampered before the baby was born because she didn’t know when the next time she would get her nails done. I was all in, this was Ashley’s last pampering before she had her baby. (Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Adam had texted them telling them to set something up to get my nails done but don’t make it obvious). Also, my best friend had planned on coming in that weekend for like 2 months before this and a couple weeks before we were planning the weekend and we were going to meet for lunch at la bodega and then go to the J. Rieger distillery tour. The Wednesday before I got engaged, I was texting her about getting tickets, and how we had to get tickets for the tour or it would be sold out. She said we could just play it by ear and when we got there we could get the tickets. (I almost bought the tickets without her knowing because I knew they would sell out.) I checked Thursday night and low and behold all times for the tours were sold out. I was so mad. I told Adam “I knew we had to book them ahead of time. I knew they were going to sell out. Now what are we going to do after lunch”.  So Saturday arrives! It was just like any other Saturday. I was getting ready for our double date lunch with my friend. We start driving to the place and there were two ways that you could go from my apartment to the restaurant. Adam missed the first exit and I didn’t know what was going on with him and was semi-annoyed that we missed the exit, even going onto to say “If I google mapped it, I guarantee you this would be the shortest route”. He then missed the other turn and he seemed to not be paying attention at all to where he was going. I then asked where we were going….He then says “We are going to the river”. (Right then I knew what was going on. We were going to Kaw Point. Kaw Point is a right along the Missouri River, which we always used to go when we first started dating. We would just walk around and sit out on edge which over looked Kansas City and talk.) We then sat in silence the rest of the 10 min drive because what do you say when you know your boyfriend is going to propose but he hasn’t done it yet and you are sitting in the car. We finally get to Kaw Point which felt like an eternity and we walked down to the edge of the land (He was essentially pulling me to where he was going to propose). He then proposes and it went like this with tears welling in his eyes….”the last two years have been incredible with you Rachel…okay I’m just going to ask already….will you marry me?” I, of course, said yes and all of our family and friends were there to celebrate

Adam – Yes, there was a lot of planning that went into the proposal day. It kind of all started with a drive to Jeff City by myself to ask her Dad. That was probably the most nervous I have ever been at a lunch. Then, Anna was a huge help planning the proposal. I was obviously very nervous the weeks leading up to the proposal because I didn’t want anything to ruin the plan. I was so happy with how it all worked and was so grateful that our family and friends were there for it!

Congratulations Rachel and Adam!  Enjoy some of our favorites from their late spring engagement session!
