Lindsey + Cameron | Columbia, Missouri Engagement Session

I met with Lindsey and Cameron at Capen Park in Columbia for a beautiful fall engagement session!  They were both such naturals in front of the camera and I enjoyed documenting their love story.  We had perfect weather and the fall foliage is beginning to show up in vibrant shades of orange and yellow.   Lindsey and Cameron were so cute as they strolled hand in hand throughout the park.  Next, we headed over to Stephens Lake Park for our final location.  The fall colors were truly showing off near the lake; the gorgeous colors were reflecting in the water making such majestic backgrounds.   Lindsey and Cameron made my job effortless from start to finish with their easy to document love.

How They Met

Cam and Lindsey met in college at Missouri State University.  Lindsey decided to go to a party with her roommate one night, where she saw Cam.  Cam knew it was going to be a large party that night and was expecting to have a good time.  Little did he know, it would end up being one of the best nights of his life.  Lindsey expressed an interest in Cam first and mentioned it to her roommate.  Lindsey’s roommate talked with one of Cam’s friends to try and set them up.  Next thing Cam knew, his friend’s girlfriend was pulling him over to talk to Lindsey.  It went so well that Cam ended up walking Lindsey home from the party that night.  They ended up trading phone numbers and began talking.

Cam asked Linsey to go on a double date to Big Whiskeys in Springfield.  The date would be Cam and Lindsey and the couple that set them up. This happened about a week after they started talking.  Lindsey was so excited but very nervous to go on the date.  Cam was a little nervous for the date because he can be somewhat of a messy eater and he did not want to embarrass himself in front of Lindsey on thier first date.

On the date, Lindsey ordered the buffalo chicken wrap which comes with tomatoes.  Lindsey had asked for no tomatoes since she absolutely hate them. When the food came, Lindsey noticed there were tons of tomatoes in the wrap.  She didn’t want to make a big scene on their first date so instead of sending the food back or picking out all of the tomatoes, Lindsey just ate it how it was.  A few weeks later, Lindsey found out that she and Cam both have the same hatred for tomatoes. Now when they go out to eat, they always order something with buffalo but without tomatoes!  The date went very well  and Cam knew he could see himself spending a lot more time with Lindsey!

Over time, Lindsey and Cam came to the realization that they had both found the one.  For Lindsey, there was not some big moment that she remembers thinking Cam was the one. It was more of a gradual process that she started realizing it. Cam would do little things and Lindsey would think to herself how she would love for Cam to be her husband someday.  She loved the way he fit in so well with her family, the way he treated Lindsey, and how he never let her down. Cam checked off all her boxes!  Cam knew Lindsey was the one a little over a year and a half after they started dating.  They attended Lindsey’s cousin’s wedding and seeing her cousin and now husband up there made Cam think about Lindsey and his relationship.  Cam knew he did not want to spend the rest of his life with anyone else.  Cam knew from then on, that he would marry Lindsey someday.

How He Asked

Lindsey and Cam went to look at wedding rings in March, Lindsey found one that she really liked and Cam went and bought it a couple of days later!  Lindsey knew Cam had bought her ring in late spring so it would be happening sometime soon after that.  The easy part was over with, now Cam had to figure out how to get her friends and family in Kansas City without Lindsey finding out.  Cam asked Lindsey if she wanted to go out for dinner, and told her they were going to a fancy place, so she would be all dressed up.  As Lindsey was driving to Kansas City, she was so sure it wasn’t happening that night.  She was so sure she hadn’t even got her nails done.  Cam told Lindsey they would go to this restaurant inside Union Station in downtown Kansas City.  When they got to the parking lot that evening, Cam had Lindsey’s sister text him from her work phone, pretending to be someone from the restaurant telling Cam that they had overbooked reservations and their new reservation time was moved back 30 minutes.  Cam did not even seem nervous at all so he didn’t give it away.

Cam asked Lindsey if she wanted to walk around while they waited for their reservation.  Luckily Lindsey wasn’t starving or she would have not been so agreeable to the unexpected change of plans.  Cam and Lindsey walked out of Union Station to this large grassy area between Union Station and the World War One Memorial.  Lindsey happened to see a photographer but still didn’t think anything of it.  Lindsey and Cam walked for a little bit before Cam stopped to adjust his sock in his boot.  As Lindsey turned around, she saw a little box in his hand and knew exactly what was happening!  Cam got down on one knee and asked Lindsey to marry him!  As Lindsey was holding back tears, all she could say was, YES!

Lindsey’s family/friends and Cam’s family/friends were at the World War One Memorial watching them from the top of the hill, so they could see everything but Lindsey couldn’t see them.  Lindsey and Cam met up with their family and friends after the proposal  to take pictures and later on they ate dinner at Manny’s.  After that, they went to a rooftop bar with everyone to celebrate.  Lindsey is still impressed with how Cam was able to organize everything and she had no clue it was all happening!
