Katelyn + Ethan | Westphalia, Missouri Engagement Session

Love is a beautiful thing!  It’s evident in the way Katelyn and Ethan looked at each other during their engagement session at the Sinquefields in Westphalia, Missouri.  Despite the chilly weather that postponed their original session in March, the couple’s love for each other radiated throughout the shoot this past weekend.  The Sinquefields proved to be the perfect backdrop for Katelyn and Ethan’s session. With its picturesque scenery, the location offered a beautiful and romantic ambiance for the session. However, the windy conditions on the day of the shoot made it challenging at times.  Katelyn and Ethan were troopers, braving the gusts of wind and waiting patiently for the calm moments.

Katelyn and Ethan’s love is infectious, making it easy to capture natural, candid moments on camera.  Their ease and comfort in front of the camera was impressive, making my job as a photographer even more enjoyable!  Katelyn’s pretty patterned dress was the perfect choice for the occasion, complementing Ethan’s dressed up look.  Throughout the engagement session, Katelyn and Ethan’s undeniable connection was evident in the way they interacted with each other.  Katelyn’s smile was radiant the entire length of the session and Ethan had a mesmerized gaze every time he looked Katelyn’s way.  I couldn’t help but admire these two and how effortlessly they expressed their love!

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, we managed to capture some gorgeous portraits.  I’m excited to see what the future holds for them and can’t wait to capture more moments of their love story on the wedding day!

How They Met

Katelyn and Ethan met through Jenna (Katelyn’s roommate in college) about 6 years ago at a bar in Portageville, MO (a small town in southeast Missouri).  Katelyn thought Ethan was the sweetest, most kind gentlemen she had ever met, she told Jenna that she was going to marry him one day at the end of the night.  Jenna wasn’t so sure of that at the time, but said, “maybe…”  Their first date would soon follow!  Katelyn went to school at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Ethan came up to visit one weekend.  They went out to eat at a local bar/grill down the street from where she lived called Bobby’s Place where they had some good food and drinks.  The pair talked all night long and couldn’t keep a smile off their faces.  Katelyn knew Ehtan was the one when she first met him! She would never give up on him after they met!  Ethan knew Katelyn was the one when he woke up one day and thought back to the old saying, “when you know, you know!”

How He Asked

Ethan and Katelyn love to go to the lake, so on the 4th of July last year, they went to the lake to experience watching the fireworks over the big bridge  in their new boat that they just bought. (It’s a big celebration at Norfork Lake).  Ethan wanted to keep the weekend celebration an intimate one, insisting that only the two of them go watch the fireworks together. However, the entire week before, Katelyn’s brother was asking if he could come.  Katelyn asked Ethan if her brother could come along for the weekend, and he said, “No, I really want it to be just us!”  Katelyn remembers thinking, “why just us?”  Cody (Katelyn’s brother) had never been with them on the lake before.  Ethan finally caved and agreed to let Cody come down to the lake for the weekend.

They spent all day on the lake and 9 o’clock was quickly approaching.  They slowly drove over to the bridge along with thousands of other boats to go watch the fireworks with Cody, Jenna and Hunter.  The firework show began a little after 9 o’clock.  Everyone on the boat was enjoying the firework show, when all of a sudden, Ethan came up beside Katelyn with a ring in his hand.  He got down on one knee in the middle of the sparkling firework display!  Katelyn’s heart sank because she didn’t think it was really happening.  They both shed tears of joy!  Katelyn could no longer pay attention to the fireworks in the sky because she was so distracted at what just happened.  No one on the boat had any idea that Ethan was planning to propose on that eventful night. The only people that knew, was Katelyn and Ethan’s dad.  The happily engaged couple enjoyed the rest of the weekend showing off Katelyn’s new bling!
