Kelly + Daniel | Columbia, Missouri Engagement Session

We joined Kelly and Daniel at Grindstone Nature Area in Columbia for a fun evening full of laughter and giggles!  Kelly and Daniel are the definition of true love.  The connection they share is evident and when you’re in their presence, you can’t help but to feel happy!  These two are quite the adorable pair.  The way they look at one another is the sweetest thing.  We love how naturally they relaxed in front of the camera.  Daniel was pulling out all the stops and barely needed any direction from us.  He knew exactly what to say and do to keep Kelly laughing all evening long.  Their bond is something special and we felt so lucky to be documenting it as we strolled through the nature area.

Their Love Story

Daniel and Kelly met online. Neither of them were really looking for anything this serious at the time.  Kelly had blown Daniel off 4-5 times before one day when she randomly asked him if he’d want to meet in person.  She was of course expecting him to say no or not even respond.  Much to Kelly’s surprise, Daniel said, “Come on over!”  They ended up hanging out for hours and Kelly loved how Daniel made her feel very comfortable and he made her laugh! He only gave Kelly a little bit of grief for being so flaky! He’s since then forgiven her.

For their first date, they went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  Even though Daniel is a steak person, he only slightly judged Kelly for liking medium-well to Well done!  The two had such a good night, so Kelly decided to let him come over to meet her dog Quill.  She was confident that Daniel would be sticking around for the long haul!  Over time, Kelly and Daniel gradually knew they had found their forever.  In the beginning, it seemed they were not going to be each other’s forever because of a few ‘roadblocks’.  A few things kept happening that they couldn’t seem to get past.  However, slowly those roadblocks seemed to matter less and less until they were simply a non-issue because of how much they loved each other.

How He Asked

Kelly works the night shift at a hospital, and she was about to work a long stretch right before Christmas.   She had been upset about not getting to see her family for the holidays, so Kelly had planned a date day for Daniel and herself.  She set up a “blanket fort” in her room with lights and a TV set up for them to watch, had mini puzzles for them to have a race, and had planned for them to go by The Magic Tree to take pictures. Daniel had found out from Kelly’s best friend/roommate the plans for the evening and waited until then end of the date day to take them to The Magic Tree.

Somehow, even tho it was a few days before Christmas, they managed to show up right as the whole place cleared out.  They got to stand in the gazebo and watch the lights and Daniel waited until Kelly was taking pictures of the tree to get on one knee. It was a complete surprise and Kelly got to somehow have a private proposal and be at a beautiful location. Just after he proposed, they got one picture together and then people started showing back up.  It was the perfect moment!

We had so much fun with these two during their session!  We cannot wait to have them back in front of our cameras for the wedding day.  We know if it’s anything like this session, it will be a great time!  Enjoy some of our favorites from the summer session.
