Lexi and Collin met me in downtown Jefferson City for their engagement session on Tuesday evening. Their session was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but with rain and storms forecasted, we opted to move it up a day early. Lexi and Collin came dressed to impress in their coordinated attire. It was evident that they put a lot of thought into selecting their outfits. From the moment these two stepped out of their vehicle, I knew the evening would be full of laughter. I enjoyed their goofy personalities and Collin’s ability to always get the most genuine laughs out of Lexi.
It’s no surprise these two share a deep connection. You can just see by the way that they look at one another that their love is powerful. We hit a few places around Jefferson City and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with these two. They took this session in stride even when rain showers popped up for a bit. Their joyfulness and laughter still remained while it was raining during a portion of the session, and I loved that. April showers bring May flowers, and beautiful spring portrait opportunities, if I do say so myself.
Collin is quite the jokester and when the session ended, he nearly gave me a heart attack when he convinced both me and Lexi that her phone had been stolen out of their car. After “tracking” her iphone, he made a very convincing plea that her phone was at a nearby gas station in Holt Summit. I felt so bad that a session had caused her phone to get stolen. And then, just when I was least expecting it, Collin pulls out Lexi’s phone from the side of the car door. He got us both good! I have to give props to this prank champion. I have no doubt Lexi is in for a lifetime of fun and shenanigans with Collin around!
How They Met
Back in April of 2016, Collin & Lexi met through Collin’s dad, to make a long story short, their dads have been friends for quite some time, and Lexi was introduced to Collin’s dad, because of being family friends. His dad had asked Lexi if she knew Collin, and she did not! The next morning, Lexi woke up to a message on Twitter (romantic, I know) from Collin! From there, they got to talking about how they were going to be going to the same college that following fall, and the rest is history!
Lexi and Collin shared their first date in late April of 2016! Collin worked for a local restaurant at that time, where he would get off pretty late at night. Their options for dinner were pretty limited, so their first date was at Applebees since they are open late! Lexi and Collin immediately hit it off. They are both goofy, sarcastic, and down to earth, so they could not stop talking. Before they knew it, they had been there for two hours just talking away. From there, Lexi and Collin could not stop wanting to hang out with each other.
After spending several years together, and really developing a deep connection with one another, Lexi and Collin started talking about their future, what it looked like for them and what their goals were. They both agreed on what they each wanted when it came to kids, where they would like to settle down, and what their career paths would hopefully look like down the road. So, Lexi and Collin immediately knew that they wanted to get married after about three years into the relationship.
How He Asked
Lexi had been wanting it to happen for so long! She would hint to Collin all the time about rings, show him pictures and make silly comments about it happening. They both agreed that they wanted to get more stable with life and their jobs before doing it. Lexi knew that it would happen a year or so down the road. Lexi and Collin had a trip planned with her family to go to Florida and they were leaving on September 10th, so Lexi was almost certain that it would happen in Florida! She could tell that Collin was acting a little “off” so she just had that gut feeling something was up! Lexi’s brother and his family were not able to go, so they were staying at her mom and dad’s to watch the dogs and housesit. Lexi’s mom had invited Collin and Lexi over for dinner and her brother and his wife just to go over everything with them while they would be in Florida.
Lexi had just gotten a fresh spray tan, her hair was in a messy bun, no makeup and just went super laid back. Lexi’s best friend of 23 years lives across the street from her parents. Her friend insisted that Lexi should come over to her house before the planned dinner so that she could give Lexi a gift. Lexi walked up to her house by herself and thought nothing of it. Lexi’s dad had also told her that Collin’s dad was coming over to borrow a tool (which is normal.) Lexi noticed Collin’s dad was at her parent’s house as she walked back over with her friend. When Lexi arrived back to her parent’s house, she was greeted by her dog Rosie, with a handkerchief tied around her, saying, “Will you Marry Daddy?” Collin got down on one knee!! To make the night more special, Collin’s whole family was there as well as Lexi’s family! Dinner was just Lexi’s moms way of getting them to come over to the house. Lexi’s friend had gotten that gift just to get her out of the house so they could prepare for the proposal! Lexi was completely shocked. They spent the next week celebrating the engagement in Florida!
I couldn’t be any more excited for Lexi and Collin and I’m excited to work with them again for their big day! Congratulations again, you two!
