I met with Megan and Jacob in Columbia on a very cloudy day. It may have been very dreary out, but the love they share shined through all evening long! These two took a bit to get warmed up to the camera, and once they did so, they knocked their session out of the park! We strolled around Capen Park hitting all the pretty spots. Things ares still pretty dormant, but the neutral background went very well with the outfits Megan and Jacob chose to wear. I love how much Jacob and Megan were able to have so much fun with one another during the session. They have the sweetest connection and when Jacob makes Megan laugh, her eyes just light up with giddiness.
Jacob proposed in December on Mizzou campus where they both attended college several years prior. So we made sure to venture over to the University of Missouri for their second location! The columns made the perfect backdrop for a few portraits. The trees around campus were in full bloom, so we wasted no time capturing gorgeous spring like imagery. With every snap of the shutter these two kept me smiling. I cannot wait for their wedding day!
How They Met
Megan and Jacob met while they were both attending the University of Missouri. They were both involved in greek life and we met through friends at an Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity party. Megan and Jacob remained good friends over the years and stayed in contact when Megan moved to Tennessee and lived there. After they realized they just kept coming back to each other, they decided to give things a real shot!
It wouldn’t be until Megan’s friends wedding in 2015 that the two of them would actually share their first official date. Jacob drove all the way to Knoxville, Tennessee to see Megan and attend the wedding. The two would begin dating the next year!
Megan notes that she and Jacob are pretty stubborn. She thinks all of her family and friend’s knew she and Jacob were meant for each other before they chose to accept it. Megan remembers having butterflies after the first time she really hung out with Jacob way back when, but dismissed it at the time. Later on, she realized Jacob was the one when she realized he was going to love her no matter what. Particularly, when Jacob asked Megan to be his girlfriend and she was trying to break it off (they were just talking at that point). Jacob’s knew Megan was the one when she met his family and sis (his dog) and they loved her!
How He Asked
About a week before Jacob proposed, he sent Megan an instagram that Mizzou had posted of a dog sitting on the columns. The two of them had planned to visit Megan’s mom later that weekend, so Jacob was like, “we should stop by Columbia on the way home and take a picture like that with (their dog) Whiskey.” Megan was all for it! So they went to visit her mom and as they were planning, Jacob told Megan not to look like a troll on the way home since Megan is totally a leggings and t-shirt kinda girl when she travels. Megan didn’t think anything of it and the two were off to visit her mom for the weekend.
On the way back from Megan’s mom’s house, they stopped in Columbia for lunch and to take their Whiskey to the columns. Megan and Jacob had lunch at Shakespeare’s and then headed to the columns. Megan remembers Jacob being super picky about where he parked and he circled the block a couple times so Megan was getting annoyed. He parked on the side of the road that leads to the cul-de-sac in front of the columns. Jacob parked and then got out and went to the back looking for something. When Megan asked what he was doing, Jacob said he was “checking to see if his lap top had shifted.” Megan being Megan was like, “it hasn’t hurry up.” So they got Whiskey on the leash and then took off for a walk around the quad. It was cold and there were some other people on the quad so Megan and Jacob both had masks on. Whiskey was enjoying stopping and sniffing everything so they were kind of having to force her along.
Jacob kept walking and Megan was wondering why they weren’t just headed straight to the columns to take the picture they came for. They walked towards Jesse around the back of the columns. Megan was trying to get whiskey to sit still so they could take a picture, but she wasn’t listening. Megan turned around to say something to Jacob and he was on one knee. Megan is pretty sure her jaw dropped because she was absolutely shocked. She noticed the ring in his hand, but couldn’t believe it. Jacob asked Megan to marry him and she just kept repeating, “Jacob, is this real? Are you sure? Whatttt?” Megan thought she immediately said yes, but apparently she didn’t actually say yes out loud.
Jacob asked again “Megan, will you marry me?” and Megan finally said YES! In that moment, a visible sigh of relief came over Jacob and he said, “I couldn’t read your body language at all with a mask and sunglasses on.” Still both in shock, they then walked around for a bit longer and then took a picture and sent it to their parents. Megan and Jacob didn’t saying anything, just sent a picture of them and the dog with her left hand and the ring in the picture. It was during the Chiefs game, so they ultimately had to call Megan’s mom and say,”‘notice anything?!” After they left the quad they two newly engaged were off to Logboat Brewing Company in Columbia for a celebratory drink!
It’s clear Megan and Jacob are quite the match! We cannot wait to celebrate with them as they unite in marriage in July with their closest family and friends in attendance. We know it will be one fun day with these two being the focal point. Enjoy some of our favorites from the session!
