We spent our last wedding weekend of the season with the loveliest pair, Katie and Jacob. Covid threatened their plans, so they were inevitably forced to move their wedding more than an hour and a half away to Katie’s hometown of Brookfield. The last minute change of plans turned out to be a great thing for their special day! Katie and Jacob created the most beautiful winter themed wedding. When we walked into the reception space, it felt like we were walking into another world. The Christmas themed day was full of evergreen trees wrapped in twinkling lights, lots of sweet treats were waiting for guests, and a perfectly styled hot cocoa bar added the sweetest touch. It’s evident Katie is a planner and spent a lot of time creating the gorgeous winter wonderland. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of all was the wedding cake designed and created by the bride herself. When Katie informed us that she made the wedding cake and wanted us to get a good photograph for her, we were not expecting to see the cake we saw. Katie created a beautiful extravagant wedding cake. It was something special. The day had so many fun Christmas details sprinkled in. Possibly our favorite aspect of the day was the bold shades of red and maroon.
Katie and Jacob’s wedding day was such a blast! We truly ended our 2020 season on a high note with these two. Katie and Jacob got ready for the day at the church. Jacob prepared for the day in the library with the help of his cousin and mom. He was all smiles as his mom pinned on his boutonnière and presented him with the sweetest of gifts. Eventually his smile turned into happy tears as he read the words from his mom’s gift. Soon, it was Katie’s turn to get into her gown. Katie had a very extravagant wedding gown that had an extra train that could be attached or taken off. Katie’s mom, sister, and grandmother helped her into the wedding day attire. Katie’s grandmother stood and smiled in awe at the sight of her granddaughter as Katie was fastened into the beautiful gown. Katie looked absolutely stunning!
Just before sharing a first look with her husband to be, we gathered all of her bridesmaids outside of church for a quick reveal. What a special moment this was. So many emotions hit the girls as everyone turned around to see Katie for the first time in her wedding gown. So many happy tears flooded from Katie’s eyes as the girls all came in for a big group hug. They all exclaimed how beautiful Katie looked. Anticipation began to build for an emotional Katie! We let her know it was now time for the big moment. She could finally share a first look with her guy, Jacob!
We met Jacob outside of the church and put him and place and told him Katie would soon be arriving. He stood anxiously awaiting her arrival. He looked giddy and nervous at the same time. Soon, Katie made her way to Jacob. She took a few deep breaths and began her walk towards her groom. Katie and Jacob shared such a sweet first look with one another. Jacob was immediately overcome with emotion. His hands instantly gravitated towards his eyes and he wiped his teary eyes as he saw his bride. Katie and Jacob spent awhile just taking in the moment with each other. The hugged, they laughed, they cried, the stood in awe of one another. It was quite possibly the sweetest first look we’ve seen this year.
The rest of the warm December day was spent photographing portraits with the soon to be newlyweds. We had so much fun with these two. It’s obvious their connection is something to be admired. Jacob adores Katie and she looks at him as if he’s the only guy in the world. The afternoon went perfectly and soon it was time for the ceremony. As the church doors were opened, Jacob began to tear up as his beautiful bride made her way down the aisle. Jacob’s grandfather had the very special privilege of marrying the two. Katie and Jacob both wrote their own vows to share to one another. There weren’t a lot of dry eyes in the church as Katie and Jacob exchanged their heartfelt promises to each other. After rings were exchanged, and a unity candle was lit, Jacob’s grandfather pronounced them Mr. & Mrs. Smith! A sweet kiss was shared and the happy couple dashed back up the aisle as guests jingled Christmas bells in excitement.
Just outside of the church, Katie’s family wrapped a tree in many twinkling lights. Katie and Jacob shared a romantic moment outside under the bright lights before heading off to their reception. Just a few minutes down the road, guests were waiting for Katie and Jacob to arrive to the reception. Katie and Jacob were announced in the room and the night was officially kicked off. Katie and Jacob entertained their guests with a beautiful first dance and the shoe game. It was the perfect evening for these two. We truly enjoyed the day from beginning to end and felt so honored to be documenting day one of their marriage.
Katie and Jacob, we wish you both a lifetime of happiness and love! We know together, you two will accomplish some amazing things on your journey. It has truly been a pleasure working with you both! Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Enjoy reliving your beautiful winter wedding day! Many more coming your way.
