I joined Nola and Adam at Haha Tonka State Park on a very warm evening for their engagement session! Originally, rain was forecasted, but luckily, the sun peeked out instead. It made for a beautiful evening. These two were so fun to be around and their cute demeanor had me clicking away. Haha Tonka has a lot to offer, so I had the best time strolling around and taking in the gorgeous scenery and cliff sides. From the hillsides, to the wooden walkway, to the castle ruin backdrops, we had so many location options to choose from. You run out of light before you run out of locations here.
How They Met
Nola and Adam went to school together their whole lives and were best friends growing up. They had the same interests and even rode the same bus together throughout their school days. Nola and Adam grew up less than five minutes from each other most of their lives. For the first two years of Nola’s life, she lived three houses up from Adam’s childhood home. Nola and Adam actually now own the property that she lived in from birth to two years old.
Nola and Adam dated in 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 7th grade so she kind of always knew that she would make her way back to Adam eventually. Nola was always just so comfortable with Adam because he’s in been one of her best friends for forever. She knew it was always just so natural with Adam. Their first date was Adam picking up Nola at her house, and the two of them just driving around on back roads and talking. It was their sophomore year of high school in 2014 and Nola was terrified. She didn’t want to mess up the friendship that they had. After Adam dropped Nola off, the two talked on the phone all night, staying up until 1 or 2am just talking.
How He Asked
The proposal was just as much of a surprise to Adam as it was to Nola! They went on a little friends getaway to Springfield with some of their best friends in college, Zachary and Mikayla. After many years of dating and Adam wanting to ask Nola, he bought a ring with his soon to be best man without Nola knowing. He stuffed the ring in his golf bag knowing she would never look in the bag.
Later that week on the way to dinner, Adam asked Nola to marry him the same way that he asked her to be his girlfriend. In his truck on their way to eat somewhere. Adam even worded it the same way both times “hey Nola… I need to talk to you about something and ask you something…” both times, Nola thought, “oh boy… did I do something wrong? What does he want to talk about he seems very serious!” then Adam continued with “will you be my girlfriend?” and “will you marry me?” When Adam asked Nola to marry him, she asked at least 20 time “Are you serious?” and “Are you for real? Is this real?”
