Savanah + Isaac | Missouri State Capitol Engagement Session
On a warm July evening, I had the absolute joy of photographing Savanah and Isaac’s engagement session at the Missouri State Capitol. And when I say warm… I mean Missouri-summer warm. But if you’d been there, you would’ve thought the weather didn’t stand a chance against their energy. Their personalities filled the entire space, and the heat was no match for the laughter, smiles, and the way they looked at each other.
From the moment we started, Savanah and Isaac’s giddiness was contagious. The session time absolutely flew by! One minute we were taking portraits by the grand architecture of the Capitol, and the next, the golden hour light was fading. Their joy made my job effortless. They teased each other, exchanged quick little inside jokes, and kept each other laughing in a way that made it clear they’ve been building a love story for years!
And what a love story it is!! These two first connected when Isaac DM’d Savanah on Instagram after a difficult time in her life. Their conversations quickly moved to Snapchat, and eventually to the hallways of their high school freshman year. Savanah even went to some of Isaac’s football games, trying to get his attention, and a few months later, he asked her to be his girlfriend (first on FaceTime, but she made him ask again in person the next morning before class).
Their first date? A cozy night at Isaac’s house with Domino’s pizza, a little soccer in the yard, and a movie to end the evening. Over the years, their relationship deepened through both the fun moments and the incredibly hard ones. Savanah knew Isaac was “the one” during the second anniversary of her parents’ passing, a time when she wasn’t eating, barely sleeping, and struggling to keep going. Isaac was steady and unwavering, staying by her side and making sure she was cared for and never alone!
Fast forward to March 7, 2025, the day Isaac proposed! His plan was clever, a trip to Arizona to visit his aunt, who Savanah had never met. They spent the day exploring a gorgeous botanical garden, where Savanah was in her element, taking photos of every cactus she saw. She had no idea Isaac had a ring in his back pocket the entire time!
At one point, they reached the top of a trail with a stunning view as the sun began to set. Isaac suggested, “We should take a picture here!” Not realizing this was his big moment, Savanah replied, “No, let’s keep walking.” Isaac, ever patient, went along with it. A little later, he casually suggested they go back to that same spot. This time, she agreed!
When they reached the top again, they asked a nearby woman… who, unbeknownst to Savanah, was actually their photographer, to take a photo of them. She snapped the picture, handed back Savanah’s phone, and in that split second, Isaac reached into his back pocket, dropped to one knee, and pulled out the ring! Savanah started freaking out, completely caught off guard. Neither of them remember exactly what was said, the excitement erased the words. But the video they have captured the moment perfectly!
When they’re not planning their wedding, these two love golfing, disc golfing, swimming, playing cards with family, cooking together, going to professional soccer games, and, most recently, working their way through all the Marvel movies in order. Savanah admires Isaac’s strength, not just physical, but his patience, generosity, and determination to see things through.
Their wedding day will be eight years in the making, and Savanah can’t wait for the moment Isaac sees her in her wedding dress! And if their wedding day is anything like their engagement session, I know it will be filled with that same laughter, joy, and connection that made our hot July shoot such a memorable one.
