I recently had the pleasure of photographing a maternity session that was anything but ordinary! Grace, who is expecting her first child with her husband Bryan, reached out with an idea that immediately sparked my excitement; she wanted to incorporate two of her horses into the session on her family’s land. As someone who primarily captures weddings and engagements, this was a delightful change of pace and an opportunity to document something truly unique.
Now, I’ll admit, I’m not exactly a horse enthusiast, but there’s something undeniably striking about these magnificent creatures! Their grace, power, and beauty are mesmerizing from a distance. So, when Grace suggested incorporating them into the shoot, I was all in. She had a vision for the session, and I couldn’t wait to bring it to life.
The day of the shoot, the setting could not have been more perfect. The family’s property offered a serene, natural backdrop. We even got lucky with temperatures in the high 50s for their December session. Grace envisioned a soft, earthy aesthetic, which was evident in her outfit choice. Her outfit was elegant yet simple, a perfect balance to the sweeping landscape and the horses that would join us. The focus was on her glowing baby bump, and she looked absolutely radiant in the soft, earthy tones that complimented the surrounding environment. I loved how she kept the look minimal yet stunning, allowing the natural beauty of the horses, the land, and her pregnancy to shine through!
Another highlights of the session was when we ventured down to another field to take portraits with their two ponies. Grace and Bryan are such natural models; every shot seemed effortless. They both have such a calm and confident energy, which translated beautifully in the photos. Whether it was the way Grace gently rested her hand on her belly or how Bryan looked at her with so much love, it’s clear that this sweet couple is over the moon about their growing family!
As a photographer, my goal is always to capture moments that feel authentic and true to my clients. This maternity session was a perfect example of that. Their session was all about capturing the quiet beauty of the moment, the love between them, and the excitement of this new chapter in their lives. The simplicity of the setting, combined with the elegance of the horses, made for a truly special shoot that I’m so grateful to have been part of.
As the countdown to their little one’s arrival continues, I’m beyond excited to see Grace and Bryan step into parenthood and I can’t wait to meet their little one soon! I know they’ll be incredible parents, and I’m looking forward to capturing even more special memories as their family grows!
