Meghan & Evan | Jefferson City, Missouri Engagement Session

I joined Meghan and Evan on a family friend’s property in Jefferson City for the most perfect and fun evening!  The day was dreary, but that didn’t stop us from capturing gorgeous portraits.  When I arrived to the property, I was pleasantly surprised at just how many great locations we could use!  Immediately, Meghan and Evan were naturals in front of the camera.  Their connection is genuine and so easy to document.  I had a blast strolling around the rolling hills of the property with a gorgeous couple head over heels for one another.  My absolute favorite time of the evening was when we stumbled upon a little fishing boat near the lake.  When I asked Meghan and Evan if they were feeling up to getting in the boat, they smiled and said, “Sure, why not!”  I feel like I say this all too often, but I am seriously so blessed with some of the best couples who are always up for anything.  Utilizing the old fisher boat helped create some of my favorite portraits from the evening.

This outdoorsy couple selected the most perfect location for their engagement portraits.  The fall colors were so pretty that evening despite the dreary weather!  Meghan and Evan were cute as can be and their laughter was infectious.  I couldn’t stop smiling around these two and their endearing connection. Evan always keeps Meghan smiling with his happy go lucky personality!  It’s evident they balance each other out so well.  These two have me so excited for their wedding day next year!

How They Met

Helias Catholic High School is the reason Meghan and Evan met!  They first met freshman year of high school through mutual friends.  Meghan and Evan had some classes together and ran cross country together.  They actually went to sophomore and senior homecoming together just as friends!  Neither of them ever really thought about making it more at the time!  Meghan and Evan spent a lot of time together as friends before they first officially started dating, so they don’t exactly know when their first official date was.  Through spending time together at St. Louis Blues games, a comedy show, kayaking, and rodeos, Meghan and Evan eventually began dating.

Meghan knew Evan was the one after they survived being long distance as Evan was living in Texas and Meghan was finishing up nursing school in Missouri. You never realize how tough distance is on relationships until you are in one.  Meghan never wanted a long distance relationship, but there was something special about Evan that she loved.  Spending months apart was difficult for sure, but the two made it work by communicating over the phone whenever they could!  Meghan quickly realized that they could survive anything together after being long in a  distance relationship for a year.  She knew Evan was somehthing special and couldn’t imagine spending life without him next to her side.

Evan was pretty cautious at first, not wanting to rush into a super serious relationship being a young 21 years old.  As Meghan and Evan began spending more time together, Evan kept getting more and more excited about our future together. They always had so much fun together and it didn’t matter what they were doing.  Evan soon realized that Meghan had turned into his best friend and he knew that he always wanted her to be by his side.  Evan remembers it being so exciting to know that he could marry his best friend and get to spend everyday with her. It wasn’t a single moment in time, rather it was the culmination of all of the good times they had together and wanting to continue that forever.

How He Asked

On the day of the proposal, Meghan actually had an appointment to get her hair colored and cut.  So, after Meghan got her hair done, she was going to go home and get ready for dinner that they had planned at Evan’s parents house.  Evan had mentioned that morning that Meghan should wear something nice, which was strange to her because they were just having food at his parents house.  Meghan thought, “why do I have to dress up for that?”  but she played along anyway.  When Meghan got home, all of her family was off work on a Thursday afternoon between 3-4pm which is very uncommon.   She dressed up in a skirt and a t-shirt and her family kept saying “why are you dressed up?” and Meghan told them, “Because Evan told me to look nice.”  Meghan was so close to changing before she headed to his house, but something told her to stay in the dressier outfit.

She drove out to Evan’s family’s house and he had met her outside.  Evan came up and opened Meghan’s car door and was like, “I heard some turkeys gobbling down by the clover. Did you hear them?”. Meghan told him,  “no I didn’t hear anything.” Evan insisted they go back there.  It was a little bit of a walk back there so Evan just talked to Meghan about her day.  Once they got back to the clover, there was a path cut (because the clover was pretty tall).  They followed the path and Evan started talking about their relationship.  Meghan and Evan and  don’t remember half the things he said during the proposal.  Once they reached the end of the path, there was a cutout of a heart lined with rose petals in the clover.  Meghan only remembers the very beginning and the very end of it. He started with, “We have been waiting a long time for this!” and ended with “Meghan, will you marry me?” and Meghan said, “YES!!” and then he said, “Well gimme that hand” while being down on one knee. It was very romantic and perfect! His sister was in camouflage and hiding behind a tree taking pictures.  He had also set up a game camera (that is used for scouting deer) but it captured a video of the whole thing!  They thought and hoped that it may have caught them talking and him popping the question since they both blacked out from being nervous but it was too far away!

Evan is such a sweet genuine soul!  He really pulled out all the stops with his romantic proposal plan.  I couldn’t be any more excited for this darling pair!  Congratulations again you two!  Enjoy some of my favorites from your session.
