While visiting Kansas City for the weekend, I planned a sweet little engagement session with Heidi and Victor! Originally, their session was planned for Saturday, but we unfortunately had to reschedule due to a rain storm. Luckily, we were still going to be in town on Sunday, so we moved the session back by one day. What a beautiful day Heidi and Victor had for Sunday. It was sunny with perfect temperatures! We first met Heidi and Victor downtown where we strolled throughout the financial district stopping at some great spots. Next, we headed to Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, where I could have stayed all evening. It’s such a gorgeous location with many options. Not to mention, the light is golden and glowy there near sunset.
Once Heidi and Victor warmed up to the camera, they were such naturals! Within the first bit of the session, you could see their nerves melt away and their connection shined! These two are so sweet and they kept each other smiling all evening long. Victor proposed to Heidi at Liberty War Memorial, so it only made since that he ended the session where the proposal happened. We ended the session on a high note as we were surrounded by stunning views of the Kansas City skyline. The sun was just beginning to set and the golden glowy light hitting all the buildings made the portraits look even more romantic. Heidi and Victor were dressed to impress and it shows!
How They Met
Heidi and Victor met about three years ago at Halloween. Heidi decided last minute to go to this Halloween party with her sister where she knew absolutely no one. Her sister told Heidi she could ride with her and her husband to the party. Heidi didn’t even wear a costume. She just wore leggings and a big sweatshirt. She wondered how she could make the outfit work and look like a costume without trying. So Heidi put on some Ugg boots and was going to tell everyone that she was a “basic” girl in the fall.
When Heidi got to her sisters house, this other guy she had never met was there (spoiler, it was Vic). She immediately asked Victor who he was supposed to be. Victor was wearing a flannel with jeans and holding a roll of paper towels. He said that he was the Brawny paper towel guy. At the time, Heidi thought that was very clever and different. Now that she knows him better, Heidi realizes that Victor had literally just pulled the same stunt that she had and grabbed a roll of paper towels to add to his normal attire he always wears. Needless to say, the two still have not had a successful Halloween costume because neither one of them can either remember until last minute or they procrastinate until it’s too late to find anything.
Their first date was a little unconventional. It was in the middle of early covid on a Sunday night, so naturally there were limited options for restaurants. Heidi is also gluten free which adds an element of difficulty, so Victor decided he would cook Heidi dinner at his apartment. Heidi must have known the date was going to go well, because it isn’t as easy to leave a date from someone’s apartment as it is if you are trying to leave a restaurant. Luckily, the date went really well! He made Heidi a great meal, which now he regrets because he does most of the cooking. The conversation was easy and effortless and they talked for hours.
How He Asked
Heidi and Victor had a New York trip coming up and she thought that Victor may propose while they were there. One Sunday before they were leaving for their trip, Heidi decided to go get her nails done with her sister. Victor had asked Heidi earlier in the week if they could get crepes downtown and then go do a picnic at the Liberty Memorial on Sunday. Heidi had agreed to the Sunday date! Victor seemed really concerned that morning that Heidi wasn’t going to be done with her nails in time to do all of the Sunday Plans. Heidi assured him that they would have plenty of time. Heidi told her sister that Victor had been acting really weird that morning and her sister said, “I bet he is going to propose today!” Heidi shrugged it off and didn’t believe her. Her sister even offered to come hide just in case there was a chance she needed to get a photo. Heidi said, “Ciera you are eight months pregnant and there are no trees; there is no where for you to hide, but thank you for the offer.” Heidi went back home and shortly after, her and Victor were headed to get crepes. Victor just kept staring at Heidi and smiling, so she instantly knew something was up. They picnicked at the Liberty Memorial for a while and finally Victor proposed! It was sweet and intimate. The Liberty Memorial is one of their favorite places to go in the city, so it only made sense that Victor would propose there!
