Kathy + Brandon | Columbia, Missouri Engagement Session

Kathy and her fiancé Brandon were an absolute delight to work with!  On a beautiful fall evening in October, we met them at the location of their choosing where we were in for a surprise!  Upon arriving to their location, we noticed a gorgeous sunflower field and we couldn’t wait to get started!  Kathy and Brandon have a way of making you feel like old friends with their inviting personalities.  Their undeniable chemistry shined through in each and every portrait we captured. They are truly an amazing couple and we love how the feelings they share radiate from them.  Their smiles and laughter were infectious throughout the entire evening, we just couldn’t get enough of these two.

We love the fall in Missouri and it is definitely in full swing!  Beautiful shades of orange and gold foliage could be seen in all directions.  Every snap of the shutter was perfect with Kathy and Brandon paired with the gorgeous fall scenery.  Next, we ventured to a local park near their home where we met them with their pup, an adorable Terrier/Schnauzer.  He was a little camera shy but absolutely sweet as can be.  We enjoyed chasing the gorgeous light during golden hour!  This session couldn’t have gone more smoothly.  With a beautiful couple who is madly in love, pretty locations, and perfect lighting, you can never go wrong!

Their Love Story

Kathy and Brandon met in class while attending high school together in Columbia.  They got to know each other a little during school, however, it wasn’t until Chuck E. Cheese brought them together that they really hit it off. Brandon started working there after he turned 16 and Kathy joined soon after. While working there, they began hanging out more, which would eventually lead to dating. During their time at Chuck E. Cheese, Brandon even became Kathy’s boss, but that didn’t even scare her off.  They loved their time together while working at Chuck E. Cheese because they learned they both shared a love for kids.

For their first date, Brandon wanted to do something unique.  Instead of a normal date spot, Brandon took them to the State Capitol where they had a private tour around the venue. Brandon loves this kind of stuff but quickly realized that it wan’t Kathy’s cup of tea.  They were both super nervous but they had fun getting to know each other.  After visiting the Capitol, they went to a popular stop in Jefferson City for ice cream.  A fun time at Central Dairy would solidify their feelings and the date ended with their first kiss.

Kathy loves that Brandon shows her how to really enjoy and appreciate everything around her.  She knew Brandon was the one after he met her family.  As a Vietnamese American growing up in Columbia, Kathy never realized the struggle her family had to go through for them to get here. Brandon’s genuine care for communicating and making connections with each one of her family members made her realize he was the one for her!  Brandon knew Kathy was “the one” when he received a call to be admitted into Mizzou Med. He immediately called Kathy to tell her the good news. Right after he told her, Kathy started crying. She was so happy for him.  He loves how Kathy is so genuinely excited for the people around her.

Their Proposal

Brandon, Kathy, and his family all took a trip together to Honolulu, HI this past summer. While there, Brandon had a surprise in store. Before the trip, Brandon had picked out a ring to ask Kathy to marry him. His plan was to take Kathy to the top of the Mountain overlooking the island and ask her at the top. To do this, he hid the ring in some running shorts in his carry on luggage. Each morning of the vacation, Brandon went on a run. It was during his runs that he was actually scouting out his proposal location. One morning, he convinced Kathy to accompany him on a hike. Although he was super nervous and quiet that morning, he still managed to carry out his plan!  While overlooking the bay, Brandon knelt down on one knee to propose to Kathy with a gorgeous ring he had been hiding in his shorts.  The beauty of the breathtaking view was one they could never forget.

We had so much fun during our time with this adorable duo.  We are counting down the days until we have them back in our presence!  Enjoy a peek into their stunning fall session.
