Liz + Jason | Downtown Jefferson City, Missouri Engagement Session

We had the absolute best evening with Liz and Jason for their engagement session!  We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a more perfect day.  We enjoyed getting to know them as a couple as we strolled around the beautiful small town that is Jefferson City!  This cute little town played such a significant role in the beginning of their relationship.  It only made sense to photograph their engagement portraits here!  From the moment we saw Liz and Jason as they drove up in their car, they looked so excited and ready for the session.  They were all smiles as they met us at Central Dairy.  When Liz asked if we could begin the session at one of their favorite stops in the city, we were all on board!  We thought it was such a fun and cute idea, especially for a couple who loves ice cream as much as these two do!

From the start of the session to the end of our time with them, Liz and Jason were so amazing to work with.  We adored their fun sense of humor and easy going attitudes.  We love how they both keep each other laughing.  That is such a great thing to have in a relationship and we always love to see couples bring out the goofy personalities in one another.   Jefferson City really is an underrated and under appreciated small town.  The light was beautiful and every location we stopped at couldn’t have been more gorgeous.  Despite the ongoing construction at the Capitol building, we were still able to find many locations around the area without cranes obstructing our view. We were so happy that all the work going on in the area didn’t deter us from capturing sweet moments.  It’s no secret we are dog lovers… we have three pups ourselves!  So when Liz and Jason told us they had his mom bringing their dog Boo, we couldn’t have been more excited!  What a prince he was for the session.  Poor guy is nearly 16 years old and cannot hear so we couldn’t whistle to get his attention.  He was a little shy at first, but once he warmed up to the camera, he was a ham!

Their Love Story

Jason and Liz met at a party in college.  Liz gave him her number and never heard anything for from Jason for months. As fate would have it, the two would keep running into each other on campus at Truman State.  They would speak to each other here and there, but nothing really ever happened.  Finally, after several run ins with one another, Jason was encouraged by his friends, so he decided to text Liz late one night.  This small act lead to their first date!  Liz and Jason debate about when their actual first date took place.  They ate lunch together in the dining hall for the first date, but they had their first official date when they went out for Mexican food together while in college.  It was during this date, that they both ran into some friends and got so much crap from everyone. Shortly after, Jason and Liz made things official and began dating in spring of 2014!

Liz says she knew Jason was the one when she visited Jefferson City for the first time with him. He took her to all of his favorite places in town and she got to really know him and the kind and incredibly sentimental and caring man he truly is! Jason says that he knew Liz was the one when they survived a semester living in bunk beds in her dorm apartment because his house was infested with bats.

Early on in the relationship, they realized they had a lot of common interests.  Food being one of the big ones! Jason and Liz love to try new restaurants and to find a new favorite place to grab lunch. They are always up for trying something new, especially if it involves dessert.  They both also have a love for movies and spent many of their first dates at the movies or watching their favorite shows.  They both have large families and they love spending time with their families!

How He Asked

Jason and Liz had taken their yearly fall trip to Illinois to visit her parents. On this trip, they always go to the apple orchard that Liz has gone to since she was a little girl. They both love fall, apple cider, and apple cider donuts. They were all  set up to take their yearly picture in front of the sign for the orchard. As they are sitting there smiling for the photo, some car began honking in the parking lot nearby. Liz finally heard someone call her name (after lots of honking), and she looked over to see her best friend’s car that had a sign on the said “Liz, Will You Marry Me” written neatly on the sign. She turned back to Jason who is down on one knee to propose.  Jason had orchestrated the whole event with the apple orchard, her family, and her best friend who drove 5 hours to be there.  Liz just kept saying, “How did you do this?”  You can clearly see that Jason puts forth so much thoughtfulness and effort to surprise Liz!

We love these two and their sweet love story!  We loved having them in front of our cameras and cannot wait to have them back in front of us in December.  Enjoy some of our favorites from their downtown Jefferson City Engagement Session.
