I met with Olivia and Colton for their engagement session in Jefferson City, Missouri. These two traveled into town from Iowa and I was so eager to officially meet them in person. Olivia and I had only communicated over email until the session and after meeting them, they were just as sweet in person as I thought they would be. Since Olivia and Colton made a several hour drive for the session, I was determined to make sure the session happened, however, the weather was not looking in our favor. After the first 15 minutes of photographing, it began to downpour and the radar showed it wouldn’t slow to a stop for over an hour. I was trying to remain optimistic, hopeful the rain would fade off quicker than we were anticipating. Olivia decided we should just try and reschedule the session. But much to our surprise, within just a few minutes the rain stopped completely!! I’m not sure how we got so lucky, but I’m so happy Olivia and Colton were able to get their session in the books. They truly knocked it out of the park.
These two are quite the adorable pairing! They were both so easy going and laid back. Olivia has an infectious smile and Colton has no problem at all making her constantly laugh and smile. It didn’t take long at all for Olivia and Colton to warm up to the camera. Documenting their special connection had me smiling behind my camera all evening long. These two really do light up around each other. I cannot wait for the opportunity to have Olivia and Colton back in front of my camera for their wedding day next year. Enjoy some of my favorites from the session. You cannot help but smile when you scroll through these. At least, I can’t!
How They Met
Olivia and Colton were matched by her sister, Zoë, and her boyfriend at the time (now husband) Braden, who is Colton’s hometown best friend and college roommate. When Olivia moved to Columbia to attend Mizzou, she was immediately introduced to Colton. Her sister made it very clear that she had no other option but to date Colton. Lucky for Olivia, her sister turned out to be quite the matchmaker!
During the first week of classes at Mizzou in August 2017 Olivia and Colton got to hangout with each other in group settings a few times, but officially had their first date on a Saturday night. Together, they went to Shiloh’s and had a few drinks, split some appetizers and got to know each other. It was low key and perfect. Olivia remembers how it was so easy to talk to to Colton. Shiloh’s quickly became one of their favorite places to go.
How He Asked
While Olivia and Colton were on a vacation to Savannah, GA and Hilton Head Island, SC, the proposal happened near the end of trip. They spent the day at the beach and the resort pool and decided to go back to the beach that evening to watch the sunset before dinner. As Olivia and Colton were walking along the beach, all of a sudden he got down on one knee and asked Olivia to marry him! This was on a Thursday and Colton told Olivia he had been carrying the ring in his pocket since Sunday when their vacation started, trying to figure out the perfect time to ask. (Sneaky!) He said then it just felt right! Colton knew just how to make the proposal intimate and special for them as a couple.
