Some engagement sessions don’t go exactly according to plan, but sometimes those unexpected moments end up making the sweetest memories! That was exactly the case for Sydney and Chance’s engagement session in Jefferson City, Missouri.
We kicked off the evening in downtown Jefferson City at the beautiful Missouri State Capitol, where these two arrived looking absolutely incredible. They were dressed to impress, and from the very first photo, they couldn’t stop smiling and laughing together. Their joy was completely contagious, making every moment in front of my camera feel effortless! It didn’t take long to see just how naturally they fit together!
We spent some time wandering around the Capitol grounds, taking advantage of the stunning architecture before keeping a close eye on the weather radar. We knew a heavy rainstorm was quickly making its way toward us, so we made the decision to pivot our original plans. Instead of heading out to their family farm in Wardsville as we had planned, we made our way to a nearby conservation area in hopes of squeezing in just a little more time before the rain arrived.
Mother Nature had other plans.
We only had a short window before the sprinkles began, but if Sydney and Chance were disappointed, you never would have known it. They embraced every unexpected moment with laughter, smiles, and the sweetest attitudes! Rather than worrying about the changing weather, they simply enjoyed being together, and honestly, I think that’s one of my favorite things about these two!
Although we wrapped up the session a little earlier than expected, the rain never took away from the memories they made together! If anything, it became part of their story. Watching them laugh through the drizzle and soak in every moment together reminded me that the best photos aren’t created by perfect weather, they’re created by genuine connection!
Sydney and Chance have such an effortless, joyful love, and it was such a privilege to document this exciting season of their lives! I absolutely adored photographing their love story, and after spending the evening with them, I know their wedding day is going to be filled with just as much laughter, love, and happiness!! I cannot wait to celebrate alongside these two again soon!
How They Met
I absolutely love how Sydney and Chance found each other! Their story actually began back in January of 2020 through Instagram after the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship. Sydney had reposted a Chiefs story, Chance replied, and what started as two Chiefs fans chatting quickly turned into a friendship. After talking for nearly two years, they finally decided it was time to meet in person!
Their first date took place at Bambino’s in Springfield while Sydney was finishing her final year at Missouri State University! Chance drove down from Kansas City, and although it was technically their first time meeting face to face, Sydney said it already felt like they had known each other forever! After dinner, she gave him a tour of Missouri State’s campus, and the two spent the entire weekend getting to know one another. Before long, they were making every free weekend count, traveling back and forth between Kansas City and Springfield just to spend time together. Six months later, Sydney graduated, accepted a job in Kansas City, and the two moved in together! After living in Kansas City for several years, they purchased their first home together in Columbia in the summer of 2025 to be closer to family and friends.
It didn’t take Sydney long to realize Chance was the one! She describes him as everything she had been looking for in a partner and, even more importantly, her very best friend! Whether they’re trying new recipes in the kitchen, watching Gordon Ramsay cooking competitions, cheering on their favorite football teams, or spending an evening playing board games (she says she’s still trying to beat him at chess!) they simply love doing life together!
How He Asked
Chance’s proposal was every bit as thoughtful as their relationship! Sydney thought they were simply meeting friends for brunch in downtown Columbia before grabbing coffee while they waited for a table. Instead, as they walked through campus with their friends, Chance got down on one knee and asked her to marry him while their friends captured the moment! As if that wasn’t enough, he surprised her with a huge bouquet of roses before bringing her home to an engagement party filled with family and friends, followed by a special dinner that evening! It’s safe to say he thought of every little detail to make the day unforgettable.
